Art in Your Home :: Emily Isabella

A1

Art in Your Home with Emily Isabella

A: Art means to me… Personal: Nearly everything on our walls was made by someone dear to us or represents who we are. For example, we have a collection of screen printed tiles and cutting boards that my grandpa designed. Another example is the antique bus stop sign. It was given to us as a wedding gift to remind us of where we first met. Essential: Air, water, beauty. Real: I am attracted to art that is raw, honest and flawed. Art reflects life.

A3

R: Reading books, blogs, or magazines... The Ballet Russes and the Art of Design, Herodia the Lovely Puppet, Hitty by Rachel Field, The Growth of the Soil by Knut Hamsun, Apollo’s Angels by Jennifer Homans…I’m sort of in the middle of a few books right now.

T: Trends I see in art or graphic design are… resurgence of the hand, 50’s inspired design, and minimalism.

Let's Talk Stationery

BL2

How gorgeous are these designs by Polkka Jam? Love them! The prints I have pictured are from their postcards, but you can find these same prints or different ones as tea towels, posters, decoration, and they even have a section of children's prints that are fabulous! I especially love the garden focused illustrations.

BL1

Polkka Jam is a company out of Finland, and have been illustrating and designing their prints for over ten years at their studio. They aim to keep their products as local and ecological as possible. Be sure to check out their blog, for updates and what inspires them.

Your Collection is Dreamy

B1

Filly Designs Spring 2012 Collection is country romance, is it not? The clothing is loose, but fitted - the colors are vintage, but fade perfectly into the rural backdrop. I adore it! Being a country girl myself, I wouldn't mind having an afternoon like this - leaning in to smell the flowers gracefully while staring off into the distance as my mildly dishevled hair blows ever so softly...see what I mean? Let's go there.

B2

Another collection that is making me sigh with envy is Arts and Science Spring 2012 Collection. I seriously want to live inside it, and picnic beneath willow trees. I want to ride a horse through the English countryside, and tend my acre garden outside my stone farm. Honestly, if I could own that jacket and every single pair of those shoes - I'd settle for waving to traffic at a bus stop.

NEW COLUMN :: face-to-face: a designer’s profile

Keecie_klarie

Out of absolute curiosity how designers actually live themselves and how they decorate their own homes made me ask Sandra Jacobs from BijzonderMOOI* whether she could visit them for Bloesem and ask them questions about their work, passions and life in general.

Of course bringing a great photographer was an absolute must and who could be better than my dear friend Marjon Hoogervorst aka Vorstin  ... how thrilled was I when I found out they were just as excited about this idea as I was.

So with proud and happiness am I going to present to you today a new column

face-to-face: a designer’s profile ~

Real homes, beautiful images and a nice conversation with well-known designers from the Netherlands to start with but probably designers from other countries too.

The first visit Sandra and Marjon made was at Klaartje de Hartog's home in Amsterdam. Klaartje is founder of designer accessory label Keecie

A special thank you to Nanette Watson aka xPattyCake, who helps us with the translations of the interviews.

Inspired :: Pretty Photography

B1

What do you think of these lovelies by photographer Kari Herer? I absolutely love anything that includes gorgeous flowers, and this unique but simple concept moved me. I must not be alone because Kari has received some excellent press. Kari likes to create her pieces using her experience in fine art and graphic design, but with the added touch of nature. You can read more about Kari Herer on her website, blog, or purchase these pieces at her etsy shop.

B2

Another photography concept that I thought to be quite pretty was by Petek Design. Maybe it is my love for vintage things, I don't know - but this concept of using vintage spoons is adorable to me. It would be a great gift to get newlyweds, or for a couple who recently purchased their first home. You can either get a print of the spoons that match you the most, or they offer a calendar as well.

Nala_kussens

Last week we shared a lot of images from the Milan furniture fair 2012 and I will do so later today and tomorrow... but the person who made these images for us is Lisette Scheers, creative director from company La Scheers&Co and Nala designs.

Nala designs is the name of her label of accessories, stationery, totes and pillows. The patterns for all of these are Lisette’s hand drawn illustrations. I really love them and am happy to share them on Bloesem today.

You can find them all in the webshop right here...

... the amazing outdoor collection by Paola Lenti blew Lisette away! And it confirms one more time how important colors are. The ton-sur-ton styling works just perfect and I wish I could have walked around in this garden myself.

If you could choose which gaden set would you get, the fuchsia, the blue or the ocre? I am in love with the pink wall.

I will leave you just with these images today ... enough inpsiration I believe

Milan 2012: The French in Milan Ich & Kar

Notebooks

Friday at Zona Tortona or Spazio France ... according to Lisette ( who visited the Milan 2012 furniture fair for us) the graphic presentation by Ich et Kar was fabulous and probably the best thing at the French design street.

We love Graphic design here at Bloesem, so this is a welcome contribution to our Milan 2012 report.

Milan 2012: Ventura Lambrate with studio Wendy Maarten and dmoch

Studiowendymaarten

Wendymaarten

At Ventura Lambrata Lisette spotted these beautiful Porcelain lamps by Dutch designers Studio Wendy Maarten for us. The lamps are - inspired by the harbour of Rotterdam and shipbuilding, this handmade lamp is adjustable in height with a pulley system. The use of black porcelain gives this old mechanism a sturdy new look - .

Dmosch

Beautiful lamps by dmoch called the Teresa lights.  dmoch are David Ericsson, Ania Pauser and Marcus Berg. dmoch's studio is situated in Stockholm and their work is a reflection of them. - One of the key elements for DMOCH is to find the balance between life and honest objects from a holistic point of view. To combine poetic ideas in the future, contemporary and historical ways
