MUR lifestyle

Bloesem living | MUR Lifestyle home goods, kitchen accessories

Bloesem living | MUR Lifestyle home goods, kitchen accessories

Fun fact: MUR is French for ripe. It is also the name for the webshop that we are currently ogling.. Started by a husband and wife duo, MUR lifestyle is the place to go if you are one who loves home goods and kitchen accessories produced by small scale manufacturers, artisans and designers who want to move away from the "disposable culture".

We suggest you stop purchasing items that are temporary and start investing in quality pieces that will stand the test of time and just age beautifully.

MUR lifestyle is the perfect outlet for Danielle and Joel, the brains behind MUR; a way where Danielle's love for design can come together with Joel's business mind. Way to go guys!

Carmen Von Trueba

Bloesem living | Get to face to face with designer Carmen Von Trueba

Early last year, we started seeing alot of amazing poster and prints online and we even shared one such collection. Remember the Veggie collection by Von Trueba? Yes the ones with the amazing leaves that have been a hit everywhere.. people are really loving the leaves nowadays. Of course flowers are classic but leaves are a nice change.. but before we get too carried away.. we thought we'd introduce you to the young talent behind the Von Trueba prints, Carmen.

Hi Carmen, tell us a little about yourself.

I was born in Murcia (Spain), and after years drawing and traveling I decided that Architecture could be my thing. I graduated from the Polytechnic University of Valencia, where I also won awards and prizes for design, art, and innovation.

Nowadays I am based in London, and have several platforms where I show my designs (inspired by geometry and materials), and illustrations.

Could you share with us 3 of your favourite spots in your city?

My favourite spots in London are: Shoreditch, Southbank and Kensington gardens.

Are there any design hangouts or places you can go to meet other creates where you live?

Here in London it is rare not to always have something to do or somewhere to go to. You have to be tuned in because there is always something going on, sometimes is stressful because I dont want to miss anything.

More about Carmen after the cut..

Back from Amsterdam

Bloesem living | Bloesem class goes to Amsterdam

After a whirlwind 1o day trip to Amsterdam I am home! Definitely an unforgettable trip... not only was it my first time in Europe, it was also our first Bloesem Class that has taken place outside of Singapore.

Together with Trisha Toh (our #instafood teacher), I spent 4 days meeting amazing students (who feel more like friends now) and sharing the joy of food styling and photography.. and whenever we were not teaching, we were exploring hotspots around town.. so look forward to some posts on that! We had to also visit cafes of course, treats for me and coffee for Trisha.

So here are some snaps I thought I'd share of the trip... hopefully not giving away too much.. just a hint of what's to come..

Xo, Zara

Wood workin'

Bloesem living | wood work by Ariele Alasko

Bloesem living | wood work by Ariele Alasko

What first caught our eye was Ariele Alasko's amazing store filled with handmade wooden goodies but then we hit the motherload when we ventured onto her website and saw these beautiful headboards and other wooden delights! The way she plays with wood and combines different coloured woods to create such pieces of art is simply amazing.

It is a tedious process creating each piece as every piece of wood has to be cut precisely to fit, so it is no wonder it takes days or even weeks to complete each. Ariele collects all her materials, cleans them and then uses the wood in their natural state (colours, patina and all) to create these patterns.. no stain involved!

Afterhours Taipei

01AFTER HOURS TAIPEI-3422

06AFTER HOURS TAIPEI-3409

Welcoming our newest contributor Adinda of Wolves Table.. we are lucky to have her as our Taipei correspondent, sharing with us all the hidden gems and bringing us around her neighbourhood. Thank you Adinda for the beautiful first post and we look forward to many more.. of course in the mean time, her instagram is the place to go for more eye candy!

Taipei is the Queen (King?) of hidden cafes and tiny back alleys filled with 'secret' restaurants. If you stay here for a couple of days and only go where the crowds are going, you'll probably miss all the gems. Heck, if you don't speak Mandarin you'll probably never find it unless you accidentally bumped into one just by randomly passing by.

I know this because I've lived in Taipei for almost two years already and i'm still discovering new places to go, eat or hang. Places that are located in streets where I passed by a million times, but apparently never took that one left or right turn to find that one place. Kinda frustrating. But it also makes a wander through the city super adventurous.

Today i'd like to take you to this place called Afterhours. It's a popular place among people in the neighborhood. It's a cafe that offers a selection of tea, coffee, desserts, bagels, soups but also some Japanese interior goods. The left side of the cafe is dedicated to Japanese plates, pots and some cutlery. The right side is where you can find the seating area, Japanese, Korean and Taiwanese magazines for reading and where you can eat, drink, do some work or just relax.

Suite One Studio

Bloesem Living | Quick Start: Suite One Studio

Don't you think the pop of gold finishing on these ceramics by Suite One Studio perfectly contrast the beautiful pastel coloured background? Produced in small batches by ceramicist, Lindsay Emery, in her cozy North Carolina studio, these chic ceramics are glazed with watercolour inspired paintings and finished with a delicate flourish of genuine gold!

We absolutely love her simple philosophy behind her beautiful ceramics.. that is to design tableware "special enough to accompany the heartfelt gatherings that make up some of our most memorable moments together." How sweet is that?

Paper and Clay

Bloesem living | Ceramics by Paper and Clay

When we talk about Food Styling, we think starting off with something simple is always best. Paper and Clay is exactly what we need.. Handmade by Brit McDaniel (this is a one-woman show!), Paper and Clay is a small batch ceramics line based in Memphis.

We love the simplicity in the designs, and of course the styling in the shots just help to sell it that much more. Just shows how important pictures are.. and of course we can't get enough of the dip-dye action.

Home of Christian Kocx

Bloesem Living | Home of Christian Kocx

We are big fans of Mooi Goed products by Dutch designer Christian Kocx. Just last year, we did a post on some gorgeous products in his new collection. We love his keen eye for design and sense of style so we thought it would be nice to have a peek into his beautiful home in Belgium. While looking through the photos of his home, what caught our attention is his use of minimal colours throughout his interior which strongly brings out the well-preserved architectural details of his home.

We are totally blown away by all the details and how he adds a contemporary touch to his space with so much respect for the building. His space exudes such a classical and homely vibe all together, which makes us want to move over right away! Be sure to have a look at Christian's lovely products... we are sure you will love them!
